Accounts
Who the time is worked for, whether it's billable, and how each worklog finds its account.
Who: people with Accounts. Open Admin, then Accounts.
An account is who the time is worked for: a customer, a contract, an internal budget. Each worklog goes to at most one account, mostly without anyone picking it. Reports group, filter and export by account and billable hours. Nothing needs setting up in Jira.
Find an account
Above the list, search by name, customer or lead, and narrow it with Led by, Available in (a project; accounts offered in every project count too), Billable and Open or closed. The list says how many of the site's accounts match, and Clear all takes every filter off.
Create an account
Add an account: its name and, optionally, its customer.
Lead: who answers for it. They see every worklog on the account in reports, whoever logged it. Required, and you by default.
Billable: new time on this account is billable unless people untick it.
Available in: where people can pick it in Log time: All projects, or the projects you choose.
Default for: projects whose time goes to this account unless people pick another. A project can be the default of only one open account.
Issues (optional): epics, parents or single issues whose time goes to this account, with everything under them, even if their project defaults to another.

The account dialog with a lead, available projects, a default project and a linked epic.
Admin → Accounts → add an account. Fill in a name, customer, lead, tick Billable, pick two projects under Available in, one under Default for, and an epic under Issues. Capture the whole dialog with the hints under each part.
How a worklog gets its account
The first of these that applies:
- the account the person picks in Log time (only those available for the issue are offered);
- an account linked to the issue itself;
- one linked to its parent;
- one linked to its epic;
- the default account of its project;
- otherwise, none.
The most specific link wins. Changing an account's links moves the time that got its account from a link, except in submitted or approved timesheets. Time people picked an account for stays where it is. The How a worklog gets its account panel on this page shows the same.
Required accounts
Make the Account field required under Time logging. People then must pick one only where their issue has no account of its own and at least one is available.
Billable hours
With an account comes Billable: as the account says by default. People can untick it, or bill fewer hours than they spent. Anyone who can edit an entry can change it, and the audit log keeps every change. Reports can show a Billable column.
Close or delete an account
Deleting an account takes it out of the list and Log time; it takes no new time. Its worklogs keep it, and timesheets, reports and exports still show its name. In the same dialog:
- Close instead does the same, but keeps it on the list, marked Closed, and can be undone.
- Move to another account: that account takes over its worklogs (except in locked timesheets), its projects and its issues.
